Maarten Christiaens
Curriculum
Maarten Christiaens graduated with distinction in 2018 with a Master of Laws from Ghent University, having undertaken an Erasmus exchange at the Université Sorbonne Paris Cité: Paris V. During his studies, he specialised further in public international law and environmental law.
In 2019, he obtained an LLM in Public International Law – Environmental Law and Law of the Sea with distinction from Utrecht University.
In September 2019, Maarten Christiaens joined the law firm Stibbe in Brussels, where he focused on environmental law in the broadest sense until July 2025.
From October 2025 to April 2026, he worked as a legal adviser at the Department of the Environment, where he dealt specifically with soil contamination and soil remediation.
Since May 2026, Maarten Christiaens has been practising as a solicitor at LDR, where he focuses primarily on environmental law, with a particular emphasis on chemical contamination, soil remediation and earthworks, environmental impact assessments and water regulations.
