Curriculum

Laurent Proot obtained a Licentiate degree in Law with distinction at Ghent University in 1998.

Since 1998 he has worked as a lawyer in matters of environmental and spatial planning law.

From 2001 to 2002 he worked as a research assistant at the Centre for Environmental Law of Ghent University under the direction of Prof Dr Hubert Bocken, where he investigated environmental liability issues.

From 2002 to 2004 he served as a legal staff member of the local authorities of Koksijde (Belgium).

He has worked as a lawyer at LDR since October 2004.He holds an executive position within LDR in the field of spatial planning .He particularly applies himself to counselling within the scope of major projects, administrative procedures and procedures before the Council of State and the Council for Certification Disputes.

He is a member of the main editorial staff of Collectie Publiek Recht (Vandenbroele, Bruges).

Since 2010 he has been a member of the LDR Board of Directors.

    Projects

  • Legal investigation with regard to a spatial development strategy for the regional urban area of Roeselare, in collaboration with U Architecten and Toptronic , commissioned by the Ministry of the Flemish Community AROHM, realized in 2006.

  • Study by order of the Europe and the Environment division of Aminal concerning modalities of a system with regard to liability for and repair of damage to the environment, implemented in 2003.

  • MARE DASM project (Marine Resources Damage Assessment and Sustainable Management of the North Sea): this study aimed to determine the price of the degradation of the marine environment of the North Sea, to develop and assess measures to guarantee the sustainable use of the North Sea and to develop technical and legal procedures to estimate the degradation of the marine environment and to recover the damage from the polluter. This study was conducted by order of DWTC and was carried out by several partners (including the Centre for Environmental Law of Ghent University), implemented in 2002.
